The USA Lacrosse Magazine just released the WCLA Division II National Top 20 list and our team is ranked #7 nationally!!!! With a current record of 5-0, our team is definitely holding our own against these amazing teams
As a born and raised “East-Coaster”, moving out to the Pacific NorthWest has certainly been a culture shock, to say the very least. Other than the food, the slang, and the overall culture of Portland, lacrosse is also different. I have noticed that not only is our team very diverse compared to other teams I have played on, but also the way we play is significantly different. On the East Coast, we tend to play more aggressively, where getting carded is almost like a flex. Here, if you accidentally knock someone over or check really hard, you are almost obligated to say sorry. As said by a teammate, “Erika is always looking to hit someone, it gives her adrenaline. It gives her that rush that she desperately needs to survive out on that field. But now being in the PNW, that must end.” I am not THAT aggressive, but it is certainly an adjustment. In the West, it seems to be more about speed and agility, while the East focuses more on strength and survival. The one thing I will say is the same is the love for the sport as well as the team. Everyone I have ever played with has appreciated lacrosse, where it came from, and play it to the best of their ability. To go along with that, the team bonding is always the same; we support each other on and off the field. Although the East Coast and the West Coast have their differences, the love is the same. Nationals was a great experience for us this year! We wrapped up the 2018-'19 season ranked 12th in the nation for DII women's club lacrosse. Sophomore Maddy Blair was recognized for the All American Attack team as well! Playing in a hot, humid environment was fantastic for our endurance and facing up against the best teams in the country helped us pinpoint where we can improve for next season to come back even stronger! Unfortunately, the end of the season means saying goodbye to some of our very favorite people, some of whom have been with us since the program began. Seniors Joann Landa, Kathryn Letcher, Taylor Williams, and Annaliese Hernandez have graduated and are moving on to the next phase of their lives! We will miss them dearly on the field and in our lacrosse family. We wish them nothing but the best in their new adventures and thank them for this amazing legacy they have left behind!
Two new vanguard articles are out about this awesome team! Check them out:)
https://psuvanguard.com/psu-lacrosse-advances-to-regional-championships/ https://psuvanguard.com/viking-lacrosse-heading-to-nationals/ After an intense battle with Gonzaga for the Regional Championship, we fell in the last few seconds to the former D1 team 9-10. However, Gonzaga declined their bid to the national tournament in Virginia Beach, letting the bid fall to us! We have accepted and will be in Virginia from May 7th to the 12th, representing the NWWLL. As a club team our main concern is funds for plane tickets right now. Our Gofundme page is linked below, every little bit helps! Thank you and GO VIKS!!!
